Directed by Santosh Sivan this Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla production is about the reformation of the Maurya King Asoka. Lyrics are written by two of the most eminent lyricists of the age, Gulzar and Anand Bakshi. Anu Malik scores music. So get ready to enjoy the beautiful musical scores of ‘Asoka’.
The album starts off with an invigorating track ‘Aa Tayar Hoja’. Situational in nature this song is a call for the men in uniform to get ready to face the war threat. Musically this song is slightly difficult. But Sunidhi Chauhan needs a pat on her back for the efforts she has put in to this song. Nothing great about the lyrics, but Anu Malik’s musical arrangement makes up for the letdown of lyrics department.
‘Ashoka’s Theme’ an instrumental piece composed by Sandeep Chowta perfectly portrays the time of the Maurya king. Unlike other theme tracks this one is a full-fledged musical piece. It is reminiscent of Rehman’s theme track for the movie ‘Bombay’. Garmented with heavy beats and peppy rhythm this song makes for a good hear.
The same holds true of the next track ‘O Re Kaanchi’. Crooned by Shaan and Alka Yagnik this song rides high on its catchy rhythm and beats. After one or two listening this song starts to grow on you. Both the singers have excelled in their rendition.
‘Raat Ka Nasha’ is a perfect blend of all the factors that makes for a good listening. This track comes twice in the album, once in the voice of Chitra and the other a duet by Chitra and Abhijeet. Both these version are garbed with excellent melody, nice picturisation, wonderful choreography, imaginative cinematography and above all skillful rendition. Chitra sounds seductively charming in this song.
‘Roshni Se’ is another fine number for your cozy romantic outings. Alka Yagnik and Abhijeet smoothly and softly flows through this highly romantic melody. The masterly crafted lyrics of Gulzaar take this song to the untrodden heights of romanticism. This song has a definite repeat value.
Another bubbly and intriguing number ‘San Sanana’ wraps up the album. Its prelude reminds you of A.R.Rehman numbers. But later on it goes on its own way. Alka Yagnik and Hema Sardesai lend voice to a girls dream. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist.
In short, ‘Asoka’ offer you a nice and relishable musical experience. Anu Malik is in full flow here. Gulzar and Anand Bakshi excel in their field of work. On the whole it makes for a nice buy.
