Produced by Vijay Galani this movie deals with a very sensitive subject, wife swapping. This Abbas-Mastan directorial venture has Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu in the lead. Anu Malik scores music whereas Sameer writes the lyrics.
The album opens up with a musical disguise. ‘Mohabbat Naam Hai Kiska’ is a rehashed version of many other Anu Malik tracks. But the master craftsman hides this similarity under his vibrant and modern musical arrangement. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik effortlessly breezes through this track. Picturised on sensuous Kareena this song is definitely going to give a knock at your sensibilities.
Adnan Sami comes in next. His rendition ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ is a pretty dance number in the style of ‘Lift Karade’. Sunidhi Chauhan gives him ample support in this energetic endeavor. It sounds like a rushed up affair, but still makes for a good hear. This highly energetic, fast beat number has the ability to fire up the musical charts. The remix version of the same turns out to be more funky and zippy.
Another peppy and funky number follows this track. Crooned by Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan and Alka Yagnik ‘Kasam Se Teri Aankhen’ has a youthful and funky appeal to it. You cannot escape its infectious rhythmic beats. Just listen to the ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’ track ‘Hum Dono Hai Alag Alag’ and this one together. Do you find any similarity?
‘Meri Zindagi Mein’ weaves a completely new mood around it. Sunidhi Chauhan and Kumar Sanu come behind the mike for this track. Garmented by some excellent lyrics by Sameer this song is definitely going to sweep you with it.
Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik croon this innovatively sensuous song ‘Kaun Main Haan Tum’. The lead casts of the movie Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor and Bipasha Basu chip in with a one liner ‘Kaun Main…Haan Tum’. On the whole this song has a totally different feel to it. With its nice and engaging music it may capture your heart. So get ready to groove to this exciting musical beats of this track.
Kumar Sanu lends his voice to the next track ‘Jab Tumhe Aashique Maloom’. He sounds dull and unexcited throughout this song. As a result this song fails to have any great shakes.
‘Mujhko Neend Aa Rahi Hai’ is purely situational in nature. So it may not impress you as an individual entity. But it looks good on screen. Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan lend their voice to this situational number.
The album ends with an instrumental track ‘Dance Music’. This is supposed to be played on the eve of new millennium. But unfortunately it arrives late for the celebration.
On the whole, ‘Ajnabee’ is an average musical fare. Except the Adnan Sami’s ‘Mehbooba Mehbooba’ none of the tracks lingers with you. With its unusual subject and trendy star cast the movie may do well in the box office.
