Movie Review : Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai

Producer: Anubhav Sinha, Bhushan Kumar
Director: Anubhav Sinha
Cast: Om Puri, Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sakshi, Farida Jalal, Manoj Pahwa, Veerendra Saxena, Navneet Nishan
Music: Nikhil-Vinay

After ‘Tum Bin’ director Anubhav Sinha brings another emotional story to the front with ‘Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai’. After the heart wrenching story of love, this time he build onscreen father-daughter relationship. Dealing with an emotional subject as such is no cakewalk but Anubhav has treated it with sensitively. He has tried to make this emotional film alongside building humour and light moments. So you laugh and cry simultaneously.

The film is set in the backdrop of Canada and Om Puri is one such father who loves his daughter Saakshi very dearly and cannot come in terms with the fact that she’ll get married and go away to her husband’s place leaving him, very much like all other daughters do. He also thinks that no other man in this earth would be able to love his daughter as much as he does. Much to his dismay the inevitable happens. His daughter Saakshi falls in love with Priyanshu. Om Puri under no circumstance approves of him. However he complies with his daughter’s wish and gets her married to him.

Director Anubhav Sinha strikes a balance showing the possessive doting father as much as he deftly handles the romance of the lead pair. The execution of the first half raises your expectations from the second part of the film too. However the post-interval portions has been made unnecessary lengthy while the climax arrives before itself. This drowns the impact of the pre-climax portion. The film should have ended when the father bows down to his daughter's wishes and accepts his prospective son-in-law. Villain’s part appears popping out of the blue as much emphasis has been laid on it.

Director Anubhav Sinha seems to be doing better with every film. Here he merges the story and the form with brilliance and treats the emotional and the humorous parts with ease. He also extracts some great performances from the actors. Also his dialogues make up for the best part of the enterprise.  It’s only Shashank Dabral's screenplay that is the major letdown in the film. He needed to put more stress on the lead characters rather than introducing characters and situations. Vijay Arora's cinematography helps the film majorly. Same holds true for the music of Nikhil-Vinay.

This film undoubtedly belongs to Om Puri. He is in terrific form and carries the role with aplomb. Priyanshu also proves his metal alongside him. Saakshi renders her role convincingly. Farida Jalal is fine. Manoj Pahwa, Sajeel, Arundhati and Virendra Saxena are satisfactory.

Owing to the theme of the film ‘Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai’ will surely find audience. With proper execution the film also caters to fulfill its entertainment purpose.
