Audio Review : Kuch Na Kaho - Heart capturing music

Producer: Ramesh Sippy

Music: Shankar- Ehsaan- Loy
Singers: Mahalakshmi Iyer, Udit Narayan, Shankar Mahadevan, Richa Sharma, Sadhana Sargam, Shaan, Sujata Bhattacharya

When the siblings of two greats come together there is obviously a lot of expectation. That too if the fathers have given India one of its all time great action flick ‘Sholay’. Yes, we are talking about Ramesh Sippy and Amitabh Bachan. Years after the union of the fathers their sons, Rohan and Abhishek come together for a movie. Unlike their fathers they choose a passionate love story. ‘Kuch Na Kaho’ is the result of this joint effort. Even though it cannot be compared with evergreen hit ‘Sholay’ it too has its moments. Music by Shankar- Ehasan- Loy promises to be a heart capturer. With Javed Akhthar Saab in the lyricists seat we could expect nothing less than a poetic marvel.

Now let us go to first track. This one, as expected, is a wonderful piece of music. ‘Kuch Na Kaho’ is a beautifully picturised romantic track featuring the lead pair Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai. The song shot in a sunflower field looks like the famous Vincent Van Gogh painting. The picturisation and the vibrant music make a strong impression in our mind. The sound of whistling in the background adds to its beauty. On the whole this track is a sure winner.

But unfortunately next track ‘Tumhe Aaj Maine Jo Dekha’ cannot sustain the mood created by the title track. It is a modern qawali with electronic instruments taking the place of tabla and harmonium. Shankar team up with the newcomer Sujata Bhattaharya for this track. Shankar does well again. His energetic rendition makes up for the failure of his debutant partner.

Baat Meri Suniyo Re’ has a certain old world charm. But the singers Shankar and Mahalakshmi with their spirited rendition take this song to newer heights.

‘Kehti Hai Yeh Hawa’ is a nice painful melody. Javed Akhathar Saab’s words are poignant and oozes out the pain of separation. Richa Sharma does major part of the singing. Shankar chips in with a line ‘Kuch Na Kaho’. This one may have an ordinary music, but it is the singing that scores full marks here. A nice track in the end.

In ‘ABBG’ Javed Saab treads a new region totally unknown to him. The lyrics are really unbecoming of him. This kids track is in the voice of Udit Narayan and Mahalakshmi.  A forgettable track in the middle of some poetic beauties.

Concluding track  ‘Achi Lagti Ho’ does not add to the salability of the album. This A.R.Rehman inspired music is an average track. Kavita Krishanmurthy and Udit Narayan croon this one. Javed Saab’s lyrics are ok. There is nothing great about this soft, romantic track.

After much hype and expectation this album fails to deliver what is expected of it. The deadly combination of Shankar- Ehsan- Loy and Javed Saab looks a shade duller this time around.
