Khushi is an ambitious effort by director S.J.Suryah to break free from the usual Bollywood style and come up with a lighthearted romantic movie. Full credit should go to Anu Malik for coming out with an inventive track from the stale, old lyrics of Sameer. His music is as fresh as the morning dew. Let us pluck some of the fresh flowers from Anu Malik’s musical garden.
This album has a nice opening with a bubbly track ‘Hai Re’. Hema Sardesai and KK croon this track. Both the singers do their best to make this song a success. With light instruments like guitar and flute in the background this track falls softly on ears. Hema Sardesai needs a special mention. After fading in to darkness she often comes back with a vengeance. On the whole Anu Malik fares well this time. A nice catchy and lovable track!
Next in line is ‘Tere Bina’. Like its predecessor this one also captures you with its tune. Anu Malik uses a full-fledged musical arrangement. But Sameer lets us down with his stale lyrical composition. However with a pacy, catchy and effervescent music Anu Malik takes this song to a new realm. If this song does well, all credits should go to Anu Malik.
‘Jiya Maine Jiya’ is a love song with a difference. Anu Malik gives this a fresh new look with his innovative musical arrangements. Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik sing this track. Udit is at his energetic best. His flawless singing makes up for the shortcomings in Alka’s rendition. This is another lovable track!
The title track ‘Aaye Re Aaaye Re Khushi’ kick starts with the sound of Dholak. It gives this Karsan Sargathia, Sunidhi Chauhan track a certain folk touch. Other than Sameer’s verses everything is perfect in this song. Once again a great work from an underrated talent.
After a folksy song the flavor suddenly changes into western. Sameer comes up with a better English lyrics this time. ‘Good Morning India’ is the song we are talking about. Though it bears a faint resemblance to a similar kind of track in ‘Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham’, this maintains its distinctiveness with slight musical changes. This fast paced song attracts you with its rhythmic drum beat and catchy tune. Sonu Nigam croons this track.
Then comes the final track of the album ‘Aaja Piya’. Unlike her other performances Sunidhi gets to sing a low-pitched song. Even then she sounds sexy in this track .Anu Malik makes use of Jhankar Beats effectively. On the whole another good song from the kitty of Anu Malik.
To sum up, the music of Khushi is far ahead of all other recent Anu Malik compositions. This time Mr. Original has come out with real fresh musical compositions. By and Large this album is good for repeated listening. So grab a copy and start listening.
