Movie Preview : A lasting impression

Producer: Vikram Bhatt
Director: Srinath
Cast: Daniel Balaji, Nithin Sathya, Lakshmi Rai, Manjaree Fadnnis
Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja

Action and glamour, if packaged well, is a winning combination. Director Srinath, who had apprenticed under cinematographer - director Jeeva, has apparently learnt this trick well. His debut venture Muthirai is a racy entertainer all the way.

The story is about two young thieves, who are on the run for no fault of theirs. The things they do to get out of trouble make up the story. Srinath has smartly laced the film with action, glamour and romance. Daniel Balaji and Nithin Sathya fit the bill for the lead roles.

The story is by Anees which seems to have been inspired by Mani Rathinam’s Thiruda Thiruda. But the treatment is different. It is glossy and pacy. Azhagu (Daniel Balaji) and Sathya (Nithin Sathya) are petty thieves, who lead happy lives until an event occurs that stirs up their existence.

A man bumped off by cops leaves a laptop with Azhagu and Sathya. The cops then come in hot pursuit of them . The two run clueless from place to place until they discover that the laptop has details of the murder of a political leader (Saravanan).

Seeing that there are many wanting to get their hands on the evidence the duo hits upon an idea to tackle them.  The brainy, brawny heroes manage to bring all those groups interested in retrieving the laptop (to destroy the evidence) together at one place.  They meet with success a sequence of events later.

Daniel Balaji is just what the doctor ordered for playing the role of angry Azhagu. Somewhat rusty at the beginning, he quickly eases himself into the role of a hero. Lakshmi Rai as his ladylove has struck a balance between glamour and performance.

Nithin Satya walks away with all honours playing the cool and composed dude. He provides moments of relief in the action flick. A meaty role which he has done justice to. The rest of cast includes Manjari Phadnis, Ponvannan, Kishore and Haneefa. Rakhi Sawant sizzles with an item number.

Yuvanshankar Raja’s musical score is reminiscent of his earlier tunes. Saleem’s cinematography takes care of the thrills and spills in racy action sequences. Anees, the creative head of the project, has given her best shot. Her costumes especially those designed for Lakshmi Rai are appealing.

Muthirai produced by Vikram Bhatt and presented by Vision Jeeva Studio has been designed to entertain and it does just that.
