Karan Johar's second film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ has colossal expectations in terms of music after ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. It’s another multi-crore budget offering and this multi starrer is no less than a stellar with big actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor all coming together in it.

The music offing is by Jatin Lalit and they can be seen once again cashing on their music banks for similar kind of tunes as in ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ or ‘Mohabbatein’. Music composer Sandesh Shandilya infuses some fresh life to the compositions. Let’s check out after all those hype and hoopla what ‘K3G’ really has to offer.

The title song ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ opens the soundtrack sung by Lata Mangeshkar. It’s a slow passed song with Indian instrumentation and sounds almost like a bhajan. But the striking part is that the song does impress you and you feel like listening to it again and again. Lata Mangeshkar even at 72 sounds terrifically good and fresh.

The first song surely registers a positive impact in our mind. There is another version of the same song with Lata Mangeshkar and Sonu Nigam and is credible once again. There is a theme music based on the number composed by Sandesh Shandilya. However it’s not as engrossing.

A pacy, enjoyable Punjabi dance track is ‘Bole chudiyan’ that sets the celebration mood right away. One listening and you’re hooked on to it. The lyrics are punchy and go well with the music. A cluster of singers like Alka Yagnik, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Kavita K Subramanium and Amit Kumar come behind the mike, and have a ball with this number.

The next number continues with the same vibe and energy. The only difference is that ‘You are my Soniya’ has a western theme and setting owing to the orchestra and music design. A bouncy and peppy track for a pleasant hearing as you tap along with it. Sandesh Shandilya of Piya Basanti fame makes his foray with this number and must say that he truly leaves a mark. With a new music director Karan Johar makes an attempt to sound really different and excels with his experimentation.

Next on the line is a mushy love ballad ‘Suraj hua madhdham’ with Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam behind the mike that just bowls you over. Sandesh Shandilya is once again at his creative best with this song. The song sounds fresh and impressive with a piece from ‘Tum paas aaye’ (KKHH) coming as a surprise. Lyricist Anil Pandey does a good work.

Time for another frothy and enjoyable track ‘Deewana hai dekho’ by Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam with Kareena Kapoor chipping some English words in between. Good music, apt lyrics and here comes another feather to the hat of the album.

‘Yeh ladka hai allah’ is an enjoyable musically and entertaining lyrics wise. It’s a conventional girl vs boy competition at the wedding festivities. Sung by Alks Yagnik and Udit Narayan it sums up as another good number for the album.

Guest composer Aadesh Shrivastava steps in with a Punjabi flavoured song ‘Say Shava shava’. Alka Yagnik, Sunidhi Chauhan, Udit Narayan, Sudesh Bhonsle and Aadesh Shrivastava get to the groove for this number.

The music of K3G has variety and class. In the days to come this will turn to be the most popular songs of the year and will soar the charts. Another good work for Karan Johar, who leaves no stone unturned to give the best to his films.
