If you’re wondering what Urmila is up to – well she is having Fun on the Run! Now what’s that? It’s the new children’s film she has completed recently and she is very much gung ho about it. She feels that her wish of working with children has been finally fulfilled when she got the chance to act in the children’s film. We chat with an excited Urmila here.
Excerpts from the Interview:
It looks you’re very excited about the children's film?
Surely I just completed shooting for it. It’s a children's film called Fun On The Run. The film is an adaptation of a Ruskin Bond story. After Pinjar this is my second film on a literary adaptation. I don’t have a long length role but a sweet cameo. The film is the story of two kids on the run and their adventures, and all the people they meet on the way. I play a music teacher whom they meet towards the end.
How did you feel doing the film?
I just have a couple of scenes but I enjoyed the experience thoroughly. It was pleasurable and lovely to work this two child actors. These two of them are such able and they aren’t at all filmi. It gave me the opportunity to connect with kids, something which I always wanted. It’s sad that no special films are made for children in this country. Well it’s not that they are only supposed to study.
How is your show Superstars going?
I’m having a good time shooting for it. Beyond the realm of actress this is for the first time that I get the scope to interact with people and get in contact with them every evening. The show doesn’t count a specific ability of a person but their whole personality. I’m really having an exciting time.
You’re looking contemporary in your next release ‘Bas Ek Pal’.
I generally don’t work with so many actors and so it’s a rare film for me. I’m working in the company of so many actors in the film. But I wanted to do this film as the sincerity with which Onir made his first film just hooked me. I'm glad I got the opportunity to see a film like My Brother Nikhil, which provoked me to work with Onir.
How do you feel about sharing the screen space for the first time with Mr Bachchan?
So far I haven’t got the scope to work with him. But better late than never. I'll be dancing for Mr Bachchan in Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay and I feel it would be awesome. It’s everybody’s dream to perform ‘Mehbooba oh mehbooba' for Mr Bachchan. My item songs have been well received and I always try to perform differently in them. But ‘Mehbooba’ has to be special and I want it to be the best song of my career. Mehbooba oh mehbooba’ is my all-time favourite and I’m just waiting to do it my own way. What about your comedy film with M.F Husain?
I would also like to ask him the same question. May be he has got busy with other things and the film has taken a back stage for him. I think that he would make a great comedy, as he is a very humorous person in real life.
You’ve quite an interesting line up of film after that.
That’s true. There’s ‘Speed happening next. This is the first thriller film of my career. Producer Harry Baweja and his family are very close to me. I’m currently hearing a lot of other scripts.
