Interview : Chitrangada ready to strike!

She stormed into limelight with Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi’ and then disappeared into the blues. However, she is back now with Onir’s ‘Sorry Bhai’. Here’s take a look at what Chitrangada Singh has to say about her comeback venture, films and more.

Excerpts from the Interview:

Lets start on by talking about your comeback venture Sorry Bhai. Are you done with its shooting?

Yes, we are almost done with the shooting. The film was entirely shot in Mauritius with the schedule stretching as long as 35 days.

So how did it feel posing in front of the camera after such a long gap?

Well, I was apprehensive at the idea of facing the camera after so long. But once the director called the shots, things automatically fell into place.

Sorry Bhai takes a paradigm shift from your debut venture Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi. What drew you to this film?

The very fact that Sorry Bhai was y diametrically opposed towhat I had tried previously drew me into this offer.

Apparently your co-star of Sorry Bhai Shabana Azmi thinks you are the best replacement for Smita Patil…

That’s a big compliment I must say. But then there is no deliberate effort to match up to the standards of the great actress. I stick to what I like best and if that invites such great compliments, I’ve every reason to be glad. Shabana Azmi is a very charming lady. In fact I was quite jittery at first with the idea of sharing screen space with somebody whom you have adored and followed all your life. It was truly nice working with her.

So what’s the best compliment you have received so far?

Well, somebody once said me that they missed Smitaji so much onscreen that they were glad to have somebody like me who matched her style and intensity of acting. That was a huge compliment, a bit too heavy one for me though.

You have mentioned in one of your previous interviews that this break has made you better armed to face the industry now. Could you please explain how?

I don’t believe that it’s possible to change or amend the ways of anybody but yourself. Over the past few years, I’ve brought in quite a few changes in my perception about the entire thing.

So now that you have once again joined the bandwagon, what kind of roles are you exactly looking forward to now?

Well, at the risk of sounding hackneyed, I’d say that anything that challenges my creative spark and me would be a big welcome.
