Did you do the item number in Sivakasi because producer AM Rathinam promised you the role of a heroine in his next project with Vijay?

Rathinam has never approached me for any of his films so far. In Sivakasi, I play a character who comes for a dance number. As an actor, I should be able to do all sorts of role including item songs. Moreover when I am called for a dance number with a great dancer like Vijay, why should I let the offer go?

All the promos of your forthcoming film like the kissing scene with Simbhu in Vallavan and a sensuous pose with SJ Suryah in Kalvanin Kadhali has given you a glamour girl image. Are you comfortable with it?

It is not the question of being comfortable. I am quite at ease doing glamour roles yet I see to it that I have enough scope for performance as well in the film. As far as the promos is concerned, it is all done to create curiosity amongst the public. They are not vulgar or obscene instead I find them very appealing and attractive.

So you are game for kissing scenes?

If the script demands a kissing scene, then yes, I am game for it. It is only make believe. But if it is added for the sake of titillating then I will not do it.

Was it wise to turn down the offer to act opposite Kamal Hassan in Vettaiyadu Villyadu?

I am already committed to the films I have signed earlier. I cannot ditch my producers for a Kamal Haasan film.

Why did you reject Rajkumar Santoshi’s offer of a Hindi film?

Again it was because of lack of dates. Since my dad was in the Air Force, I spent most of my time in North India. So I am more comfortable with Hindi than the South languages but my previous commitments came in my way.
 
Are you conscious that you are on the heavier side? Isn’t it an disadvantage?

Why should I reduce my weight? I guess I look good with my plump figure. Right from my young age I have been chubby. My constitution is like that. I think if I start doing workouts and try to slim down, I will look very unattractive! Moreover my audience likes me the way I am.

What are your forthcoming films?

I am doing two Telugu films, Lakshmi with Venkatesh and a Nagarjuna film. In both the films though there are other heroines, my role is very important. In Tamil I have E with Jeeva, Vallavan with Simbhu and Kalvanin Kaadhali with SJ Suryah.

Does this mean it is goodbye to Malayalam films, which gave you a break in films?

I would definitely do a Malayalam film if I have the dates.
