She is tall, she is hot and she is loaded with lots of oomph appeal. We are talking about Koena Mitra, the bong actress, who had had everyone begging for more with her sizzling jig in ‘Musafir’ and ‘Road’. Not just that. The actress surprised us with her acting takes in ‘Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena’ and ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’ as well. Though one hasn’t seen much of her in the recent times, 2008 definitely promises to be action-packed for Koena with an impressive line-up of films in her kitty. In this free wheeling chat with Koena Mitra, the actress tells us more on her first international project ‘Karna’.
Excerpts:
It’s been really long since we last saw you in Apna Sapna Money Money. Where were you all this while?
Well, I believe it takes time for good things to happen. Only a few lucky ones make it overnight. But others like me have to wait and watch for the right time to make a move. I prefer to wait for a good offer than just rush for any and every offer. A good work gives you immense contentment and a big high. And I’m willing to wait for that until some good offers drop in. I think its wise to learn from your mistakes and never to repeat them again.
You are all set to start working for your first international film Karna. Could you brief us a bit on the film?
Karna is my most exciting film so far. I have put in a lot of efforts to groom myself for the role and I hope that all the hard work pays off. The best part about the film is that you have a feminine character who isn’t just another pretty face but a pro in all forms of martial art. That’s really a good thing about the film.
What about your character in the film?
I play a village belle in this film born with superpowers. The director wanted an Indian face who’d compliment both the role of a rural girl and a superwoman. On one side I sport this completely earthy look in the film while on the other half I don this sturdy sexy role of a superwoman.
Share with us your experience of working with an international crew for the first time?
It was one big opportunity for me. The people who have trained me here are actually the ones who have trained Hollywood actress Uma Thurman in the Kill Bill series. The special effects team has formerly worked for films like Matrix and Ghost Rider. The photographer who shot my portfolio happens to be a Vanity Fair photographer. So it was indeed once in a lifetime opportunity for me. It’s definitely a great opening.
Tell us about the rest of the cast of the film?
It’s a big project and talks are on to cast Orlando Bloom in the film. A team of three directors is heading this film. While one looks at the drama part of the film, the rest two are concerned with the action and special effects of the film respectively. Then there are also three producers. PNC being one of them, which holds the onus of releasing the film in India. It’s a complete English film.
So when is the film releasing?
Well, it’s definitely going to take some time. It’s a huge project. We recently shot for the promos of the film and it was one lengthy schedule, with lots of detailing, special effects and whole lot of traveling involved. The postproduction of the film is going to take a lot of time. So one can expect to see the film by this year or at best by opening of 2009.
